Spicy Turkey Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joe sandwiches are a classic family favorite at dinner time or a fun lunch meal.  They are a hit especially with children, likely due to being hand-held, easy to eat, involves ketchup and otherwise very tasty.  This recipe allows you to make Sloppy Joes pretty much from scratch, and adding in 1-2 Sriracha Stix should still be mild enough for kids to enjoy.  If you are cooking for a Sriracha loving crowd, you can always separate the recipe into two skillets and willingly add one or two more Sriracha Stix to give the recipe a real burst of flavor!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds extra lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper to taste
  • 2-3 Sriracha Seasoning Stix (2 for less, 3 for more spicy flavor)
  • 2 cups of water
  • Sandwich rolls or hamburger buns of choice

Directions:

  1. Place ground turkey and onion in a large skillet. Add a splash of cooking oil. On medium heat, cook and consistently stir the mixture until the turkey is browned - about 10 minutes.
  2. Stir in garlic, Sriracha Seasoning Stix, and green bell pepper; cook and stir until vegetables are softened about 5 minutes. Add 1 cup water and stir, scraping the pan to dissolve Sriracha Seasoning Stix.
  3. Mix in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard.  Add 1 more cup water and return mixture to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer (can cover for faster cooking time), stirring occasionally, until the liquid has evaporated and the mixture is thick, about 30-40 minutes.
  4. Place mixture into bread of choice, add a side salad or other dishes, serve and enjoy!

Save Time on Recipes

Gone are the days of adding in more chili peppers, paprika, salt, garlic powder, etc. separately which takes time to prepare and frequently taste test to make sure a recipe is right.  That is not always practical to do if you’re baking a potato, or a dish containing eggs - taste testing just can’t always be done to make sure the flavor is on point.  Now, the worry of getting the taste just right is over. When you use Sriracha Seasoning Stix, you know exactly how much flavor and spice will be added to a dish each and every time.

When life is busy and time is limited, a fast meal preparation with an easy to make side dish is the way to go.  Keeping meals quick and simple will save time and still provide the flavor and enjoyment that you and your family will appreciate as if you spent hours preparing it!

Just The Seasoning

Another great point to make along with the convenience of using sriracha stick is that it does not add a ton of extra ingredients to a meal or snack other than warm savory flavor.  When Sriracha is used with almost any food item, all you are adding is the flavor, not much else.  This is a bonus if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle using simple ingredients.  Living and eating healthy on the go is not always easy, but now it can be!

For the days when you want to cook something tasty but still on the healthy side and not full of a long list of added ingredients then Sriracha Stix are the perfect go-to item.  They can spice up your life in so many ways from Seasoned Chicken, Spanish Rice, Chipotle Mayonnaise, etc.  Just see our other recipes for more ideas.

Ready, Set, Go Flavor!

When you show up to a party or gathering with the best tasting appetizer, main dish, or savory sauce - no one will be able to stop talking about it.  Be prepared to answer questions about how you found the time to create such a great dish.  However, it is entirely up to you if you want to spill the secrets of a good cook and just how easy it is.  Sharing the love is something you can’t go wrong with, especially when it is too good to keep all to yourself.
